Welcome to Heritage Ulster

Heritage Ulster brings together a range of items from, and about, Northern Ireland with the central theme being the incredible story of the Ulster-Scots or Scots-Irish.

The Ulster-Scots or Scots-Irish originated from Scotland in the early seventeenth century and settled in the north of Ireland, mainly in the province of Ulster, the first major settlements being those of Hamilton and Montgomery in County Antrim and County Down in the first decade of the seventeenth century.
Many of the descendants of these Scottish Presbyterian settlers emigrated to the New World in the eighteenth century and later to Canada, Australia and New Zealand taking with them a rich culture and identity which persists to the present day.
